Gary Chase Posted January 21 Wasn’t sure where this build was going but after some thought and accumulated parts. Well a newer style log truck is the build…….so far. The red Kenworth is the neighbors truck and is the inspiration. They run the single wide tires all the way around, air lift axles everywhere. I got a bunch of reference pictures and measurements. The beds are 26 ft long. got the beds roughed out. getting to work on the trailer.
vincen47 Posted January 22 This will be a neat build. You’ve got a great start. Does the second axle have a passive or active steering system? Also, how many of the drive axles are powered? I’ve seen those trucks during trips to northern Michigan, but I’ve never checked them out up close.

The newer loggers have a second steering axle, older ones had a non-steering lift axle. Most of these trucks are twin screw, very rare to see a tri-drive up here. They have an air lift in front and behind the drive axles. When I talk to the guys, the conversation is always about a lighter truck to carry more pay load and who is getting the most decked out new truck.
Chris K Posted January 23 Going to be a good one.
Gary Chase Posted January 23 Doing a little research last night on the T800. I didn’t realize that Kenworth still offers the T800 in a flat windshield (like the W900) and a curved windshield (like the T600, one piece glass and two piece glass). It was offer in a long hood, short hood and wide hood. Also noticed that you could get it with the newer doors (no vent window and step down window) as well as the standard door with vent window. By picking up a T800 hood from ST Supply you could build several versions of new Kenworth trucks, being that non of the molded makers are producing much of the newer trucks.
Johnny M Posted January 23 I've always liked the T800 -- a great truck that has stood the test of time for decades now. Did not know that about the windshields. Thanks for the info. Johnny

Yup, I just got enough, the newer logging trucks run singles all around, a couple years ago, just the lift axles where wide singles, prior to that they ran duals on all axles except steering. Gary Chase Posted February 7 Been looking for the late model cab, bought a couple to find they are just not very good quality. This week Global Model Trucks came out with two hood versions and I ordered both. See how these work out.

Gary Chase Posted May 1 My cab and hood have arrived. I will be using the short hood, removing the air filter cans and remounting to the cab, removing turn signals, removing grill and building a more detailed grill. Bumper and interior are up in the air at this point. Quality is good, thickness is about .010 to .020 thicker than AMT, but very nice finish. Karl does a good job building these.
Gary Chase Posted May 3 Ordered a MX 13 engine from A&N, yes it is 1:24 scale, but I am going to see if it will fit……..or I just spent some money on nothing.

I’d think it would fit, but curious to see for sure. I ordered one myself, I plan to use it in the A&N W990 kit. It’s a good choice for your T800. Looking forward to seeing it. I heard the one that comes with the MX13 is a European unit, not used in the states.
vincen47 Posted May 3 True, what comes with it is a Traxon ZF 12 speed, not available in North America, so I’m going to use the Eaton 10 speed that comes in the A&N W990 chassis kit. If I didn’t have that transmission, I’d use the Eaton 13/18 from Moebius (with or without the autoshift components, depending on the build) or the Eaton from the Italeri Peterbilt Series 60 (looks pretty close to a Eaton RT Series 13 speed). Gary Chase Posted August 6 Been collecting parts most the summer, so yesterday I laid out all the parts today I measured out the frame length and got the frame rails together, will need to trim off about a quarter of an inch……..maybe😉 I did take the time to add a couple Craftsman toolboxes this summer under my bench to organize a bit better
Johnny M Posted August 7 Love your box collection -- you could make a room divider out of them if you had about two or three more 😲 Johnny
