Looking better and better all the time! Love the subtle weathering effects on the exhaust.
  4. Just finished a Heller 1:24 Ferguson TE-20 kit, and I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

    Snap KW W900L hood.

Nice! Thinking of possibly casting this when it's done?

Why I haven't been as active here as I'd like.

Other than replacing the broken glovebox handle and addressing the legendary Impreza driver's side seat belt squeak, I haven't really done much with it as far as mechanical work. It's about due for an oil and filter change- hopefully I'll get around to that before the snow flies.
  12. As a mod, I do stop in every day to check in on things, but I'll admit that I'm not posting as much as I could. Main reason? Well, let's just say I've run into some small foreign objects... Three BMC Minis- the 1:24 Tamiya Morris on the left, a 1:43 Airfix Austin center, and another Tamiya Morris to the right. The Austin is tiny... about the size of the Spicer transmission in the AMT White Big 4 kits. The Tamiya kits will almost fit under the hood of an Ertl Transtar Eagle 4300! And... just got these not too long ago. I guess after 2015 being such a big year for heavy commercial modeling for me, it seems natural I'm going back to smaller subjects, lol!

Why I haven't been as active here as I'd like.

Bought a "beater" car for winter, and it turns out to be the most fun car I've ever owned. So the last few days I've just been hooning around all over the county and not really doing much at the workbench. Don't worry though- I'd like to at least get the 359 somewhat close to complete this winter.

    Tim Gibson's Truck Models

Tim's latest- a '66 Reo cabover. He started out with a resin Diamond T cab and modified the grille to the Reo version. The gravel trailers are scratchbuilt.

Nice! Big rigs can be a little addictive so I will advise caution, but you'll have quite a bit of fun with them. Now, back to those women figures... are the women depicted large, or just large scale...? I I mean, it's all good either way, just curious.
  16. My laptop just crapped out, and I have no idea when I'll be back online. Just letting everyone know.

    International Incident

The Prostar and Fleetstar have see little action since the last time, but the Paystar has grown a few appendages. The old 'binder is now armed with a 105 recoilless rifle mounted atop a platform over the cab... that should keep any marauders at bay. I also added a "blast screen" over the windshield, and used an air cleaner from a junked Payhauler 350 kit. A little "corrugated tin" was used to make some rear fenders. Here's an overall shot, showing the fenders and bumper. The taillights are just self-adhesive rhinestones from a craft shop. The platform is made up of an old Peerless headache rack and a G-scale stairway from Plastruct. The exhaust pipe is slash-cut Evergreen styrene tubing. It also has a name now...

    Custom Anteater

I started this four, maybe five years ago, with a started kit. The condition of some of the already assembled parts (like the frame) and the high number of incorrect parts (like the frame), combined with the fact that a T600 doesn't exactly set my heart aflutter in the first place led me to build it as a custom. The fact that you don't seem to see too many custom T600s, compared to more traditional-looking rigs like W900s, probably also nudged me in that direction. Aero tractors do tend to be overlooked as custom projects, by and large. Other than the fender modifications and (possibly temporary) Moebius wheels and tires, this was how the thing looked for four years. Oh, yeah, I did steal a Revell snap W900 kit as a frame donor. It's every bit as inaccurate as the AMT/Ertl frame (which was also a W-series frame recycled from the '70's), but since this is a custom and much of the telltale parts of the frame will be hidden anyway, I wasn't too worried. Last night I dug it out and got this far.... I did a little bodywork and filled in the door handle openings. I was torn on what to do with the sides. I did cut down the stock aero skirts but the more I looked at that the less I liked it. I decided to try the W900's side steps. With that in mind, I modified the Anteater fenders by cutting them at the front tire center line, and splicing in sections cut from the W900 hood, using the patented Fender-Blender™ technology. I did add the forward stub from the T600 on the W900 chassis as a means to locate the hood hinge and bumper in the proper locations, so I kept the Frame Stretcher Apparatus™ in the toolbox for now. A few changes were made to the hood up front as well. I did away with the vertical center divider. The KW will use '37 Ford "teardrop" headlights. I added some trim around the grille opening using D-section plastic strip. The grille will be pattered after a '30's/'40's style KW grille. The Bare Metal foil I applied over the KW emblem a half decade ago (to protect it from filling with primer) put up quite a fight coming off, but it came off eventually. A new piece will now protect it until it's ready for the final detailing. STILL needs some bodywork, not to mention a ton of other doodads, such as a powertrain. I may stick with the Cummins as it comes with quite a few chrome goodies, or not. I also closed off the top of the frame, which not only gives a custom look but also restores quite a bit of the torsional rigidity you lose when you cut the molded floor off the top of one of these Revell snapper frames! That's it for now... here's hoping it won't take me another five years to wrap it up. I'm hoping to get this thing done by 2020, so...

    My Class Of 2015

Here's a link to all of them on Facebook- each photo caption contains a brief description. You can also check the Model Truck Showroom section of this forum, I've posted 'em all here. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1688061751477883.1073741854.1620083014942424&type=3 And if you're interested in seeing all of my completed models, truck or otherwise, here they are, along with some sad, sappy piano music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X9cm5j73eM&feature=youtu.be
  21. Well, you all saw the WIP, and I'm finally able to call this half-decade misadventure a done deal. I still might add some skirts along the bottom of the cab to hide my less-than-pleasing-looking cab mounts, but other than that it should be a decent shelf filler.

    GW Trucks

Gary Wallace has been back for a few years, and has a pretty decent-sized catalog of parts. This is my first purchase from Gary, and I guarantee you I'll be a repeat customer. First up is the 108" BBC hood for the AMT White Road Boss. I like the look of a long-hood, but I have to be honest, the Road Boss just doesn't look good with the 122" BBC, as depicted in the AMT kit. The 108" should cure that. He also makes the super-short 90" BBC hood, which would be perfect for a "city" tractor. Either way, they cost $15. The fenders will need a bit of filler where the extensions were glued on the master, but other than that, there are no casting blemishes whatsoever. There is a thin film of resin you'll need to remove from the grille opening... no big deal. It's razor thin. Next up we have the set-back axle hood for the AMT Diamond Reo, which also includes the quarter fenders. Again, the part is perfectly cast, and there are no blemishes of any kind on the parts. This hood also sells for $15. I have test-fit both hoods to the kit grilles and cabs, and I see no problems with fit. The kit parts fit to Gary's hoods just as if they were the kit-supplied pieces. Lastly... We have the day cab panel for the Italeri Fords... the Aeromax and LTL kits. Again, perfectly cast, and the stamping/ window surround detail is very sharp. This one will set you back $5. Gary can be contacted at gwtrucks@yahoo.com

    Diamond Reo

Lansing Pride, baby! Keep the round lights- squares look out of place on any DR but a Giant. That being said, single round headlights might be interesting. It's really hard to improve on the front end of a Diamond.
