more progress on the pete last night , I ended up swapping out the front steer axle/wheel and tire set up from a revell snap pete kit. had to narrow it about a 1/8 inch so it would clear the front fenders. also used the rear tires from the snap kit mounted on some spare amt freightliner wheels. the battery boxes , lower exhaust pipes , and exhaust pipe brackets were also pirated from the pete snap kit. the front filler panels behind the front fenders along with the mounting brackets came from a revel of G 359 junker in the parts box. couldn't resist doing a mockup , it's starting to get that mean look that i'm after.

no problem. just have to be sure they don't hit the inside tires. -

you could use a jig, I have seen people make these out of lego pieces stacked up. I build my frames on a nice piece of granite. I glue the cross members to one side of the frame first, then glue the other side rail on after it sets up for a while. I always use good old fashioned tube glue so I can make adjustments. it also gives a strong bond. here is a 359 frame I did for my current project and stretched it out a little. hope this helps.

thanks casey ! I started with a junked amt cab that I cut down for the small sleeper version as my dad had. the exhaust and breather were set into the cab as on the real truck. after I had the cab where I wanted it I used the frame and suspension from a amt diamond reo kit . I found aluminum rear two hole bud wheels at a hobby shop . the 318 Detroit came from the parts box. for the front steer I used a monogram snap pete unit . the detail parts I made or got from the parts bin. the paint is a custom mix I made for the green that I airbrushed on and the silver is testors spray can . I used a pearl clearcoat on the silver. at the time I was my most ambitious project as I had never cut up a cab before. it took about two years to complete.
