  1. Rebuilding this IH dump I've had on the self for the last 40 years - I know, hard to believe that Ertl kit dates back to the mid 1970's.

The first couple of pics is the original build with the dump bed removed, I did weather it some back then and that will remain. The new winch deck and everything thing else will be weathered slightly as this represents a working truck. I mean it is and IH after all !

The dual winches come from the discontinued Revell drop deck trailer #07533.     Everything else is scratchbuilt.

The cab/hood will be removed, reworked and repainted white with the lower half the same yellow to match the deck.   The hydraulic oil tank caps both come off and are accessed by a hatch in the deck. I made all the hyd fittings and lines both soft and hard. Used a schematic found online for proper routing.  More to follow when finished. Keep on truckin America !!

  2. Welcome ! I have recently joined myself and remember pay $ 8.95 or so from the auto world catalog easy back when. eBay is great for finding the classic plastic-but wow the price lol.  Honestly I pay it because I find value in the old Ertl kits.  They were the best back in the day and still are, even forty years later.  Keep on truckin !

  3. I started this in 1980... really i did, but then lost everything except for the engine, cab, hood, sleeper and completed interior.  All of this was painted in 1980 and except for the cab roof is original paint. Bare metal foil was done in 1980 and has survived in pristine condition !  These parts were literally sealed in Tupperware until last summer.  As luck would have it AMT re-released the R model so I have used it to complete this model.  Soo many adjustments in this kit. I have added so many details that it has become maddening lol-but I think worth it in the end. Completed pics will follow upon completion.  This is to represent a working truck so subtle weathering will be found throughout.

  4. Here is the extendable flatbed from Great Dane. Being a late 1960 early 1970 offering i had to update and modify. I changed the headache rack from the solid one to a "headboard " style.  added a tool box from AITM making the frame and refit it with super singles.  I also replaced the weak i beam bumper with an ample square tube complete with Meng bolt head details.

  5. I have been following the site for about a year now and just joined in order to show my trucks and comment on all the good builds i see.

I have building seen 1975 and just recently started back after about a near twenty year hiatus. So nice to see someone is finally putting out a truck model magazine, thank you Lee Hartman. As a kid that was only a dream but we did have many good contributors to a truck model column in Scale Auto Enthusiasts magazine.

I am so glad to see a lot of folks casting all types of parts for the hobby.   Back in the day we only had a few guys doing it and they are not any more, luckily some their masters live on at AITM and GW resin to name a few. Some of the stuff is lost forever like Clint Freeman's items.  After my time in the Navy, first Gulf war, I drove tankers for about 13 years and transitioned into a new career around 2010.  So many of the builds I see here motivate me to be a better modeler- so to that I thank you all.

And yes I am subscribe to the school of thought...Build the classic plastic !!
