    Pappa Truck Custom

Very nice! I'm planning to build one of these to haul a GATR rig.
  4. Just an idea I've had for a while. When the Single Drive kit came back out, I nabbed it for a cab to use on the Dual Drive chassis. Of course, Round 2 released the 75th Anniversary kit that could be built either/or from one box a few months later. Oh, well. This one will be a bit of a hodge-podge, stone soup kind of project. The kit and chassis came from two kits, and I did get the 2-in-1 kit and I might use the 75th Anniversary Freightliner logos on this. The wheels and tires are from an Italeri Freightliner, and I might end up going with a Detroit V8 for power. Here's where she stands so far- other than fitting the Italeri wheels to the AMT axles and lowering the ride height just a touch, so far it's just basic "build it the way AMT instructs". That'll change in a bit.

    1966 Reo GH

This *should* be a fairly simple project. The idea here is to take the 1972-ish Diamond Reo kit and backdate it to a 1966 Reo GH. The main cosmetic difference is the hood. Though the shapes and basic cues are similar, the Reo does have a few unique features. Here's an example of a "late model" Reo, just before White Motor Co. merged them with the Diamond T division... REO, very late model by Dick Copello, on Flickr Here's an ad touting the benefits of Royalite with a similar hood but a slightly different grille insert. And here's where I stand with the project so far... The basic hood from the Diamond Reo kit was assembled as intended. I stripped the chrome from the grille and lower fender trim and added that as well- it'll be treated to Bare Metal foil later on. I filed the grille smooth and glued it into place, then created a new grille surround and trim from Evergreen strip. My big problem might be getting the tainty Reo V emblems right.

    1966 Reo GH

Nope, just a Michigan plate. That's what I plan to do, but I'll still need to make that crown somehow. There is one I could use on the Diamond Reo emblem but it's barely there as far as how well-defined it is. I do have an idea or two in mind though.

    GMC 9500 Tractor

Progress from last night. The windshield gaskets and divider, wing vent posts, and rear window gasket were added, along with fuel tank straps and steps. And earlier tonight I built and painted the chassis and began to weather it.

    1966 Reo GH

I've got a few sets of the Plastruct letters- it's more the emblem I'm worried about. That dainty little V-crown thing.

    Up Late Watching B-Movies

None are as bad as Tremors 3 though. In that one a Ford Explorer Sport Trac plunges into a canyon, and when they find it at the bottom it has turned into a third-gen Dodge Caravan.

Building new Workshop 4 bare walls

Space utilization (or lack thereof) is my #1 enemy. I have kits stored in one room and I work on them in another. I do need to clear off some space on the workbench, I'm currently knee-deep in an auto repair shop diorama and I've been going back and forth between two tables with it. If I cleared off the bench I'd have room for the diorama plus plenty to spare, but I just don't have the gumption, and of course now I'm on a 10-pound lifting restriction until the end of the month, so that doesn't help.

    Saturday Inspiration

Just a few interesting trucks and tractors I've spotted over the last month or so. Some would require a bit of creativity to pull off in scale, but that's all part of the fun, right?

    Chuck Most aka Cornbinder

My name's Chuck Most, and I live in Ithaca, Michigan. Many of you probably know me from the Facebook modeling groups and the many scale modeling forums I frequent. I also write for Model Cars Magazine. I've been building models since 1988, when I was six years old. I have probably built more Hudson Hornets than anyone... 13 and counting. I build a lot of light commercial= pickups, vans, 4x4s, ,as well as light commercial police and emergency vehicles. Hot Rods used to be my main thing, and while I still build them, I mainly go for weathered and distressed subjects nowadays. An old junker has a story and character that a shiny new vehicle just can't match. I built my first semi tractor about six years ago, and have been getting into them more and more over the last three years or so. I've posted pretty much every "big rig" I've ever built here but two or three, I'll have to see if I can find pictures of those somewhere. I also have quite a few more in various stages. My day job involves making parts for 1:1 semi tractors and trucks- I work for a company called Hutchinson, which makes engine, radiator, and other anti-vibration mounts for companies such as Navistar, Daimler, and Paccar. My particular plant's two biggest customers are Harley-Davidson and John Deere, though oddly, I've never made a Harley or Deere part. I'm usually making engine mounts for Navistar, or bushings for Cummins, though I work pretty much every section in the building except shipping and receiving As far as my interests go, I'm a big International fan (you probably figured that out right away), but also fond of Fords. REO and Diamond REO are also near and dear to me- I grew up just north of Lansing where they were built for years. But I'll build pretty much anything that strikes my fancy, regardless of manufacturer. I'm even known to build a GM product every now and again. As far as style, I lean toward basic, well-used "workin' trucks", but I'll build a loaded factory fresh owner-operator or a full-blown custom "large car" if that's what I feel like doing. I don't want to burn myself out doing one style or type over and over. I've got a personal website with quite a few of the models I've built, as well as a few kit reviews- http://chuckmost.wix.com/madhouse-miniatures and it's sister Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Madhouse-Miniatures-1620083014942424/timeline/ My Photobucket, which barely gets any use these days- http://s980.photobucket.com/user/ChuckMost/library/?sort=3&page=1 And my recently back-from-the dead Flickr page- https://www.flickr.com/photos/36727233@N02/albums

Nice! Did you modify the Chevy kit engine into a Cummins or is that an aftermarket piece?
