41CHEVY Posted August 17, 2018 (edited) While the Bandag defiance is sitting for a month or so the let all the putty and filler dry and shrink I'm starting a GMC Tilt Cab Cruiser or Crackerbox. First thing is to start the distinctive " fish belly" chassis, The start of the cross members and air ride pads and rear trailing arm mounts.. DRIPTROIT 71 Posted August 19, 2018 Looks great so far!! I plan to build one of these in the future. Mine will be a straight front axle. I'm guessing that you're going independent in the front?
41CHEVY Posted August 19, 2018 Yes with air ride. Making up the assembly now. Paul

41CHEVY Posted August 26, 2018 Cut down a 8V71 and made it into a 6V71. The other part in the works is an exhaust "rattle box" that gives the Detroit Diesels a really slick sound like nothing in the world. 41CHEVY Posted September 1, 2018 Got the details on the air tank mounts added, rear cab pad, the exhaust "rattle box" done, fifth wheel plate mounted and partial details added and the fuel tanks built and detailing started. Started the cab. Cut the sleeper area down, made a grill for it and added vent window posts. The windshield divider was a bit of work as the windshield is Vee'd only 10 degrees. 41CHEVY Posted September 19, 2018 Chassis is moving along. Made up battery boxes, steps, fifth wheel plate and turntable, dryer, air filter can, hinges , 9 shots to coil up the mud flap holders and fabbed up splash guards in front of rear wheels. Got the interior almost complete including the GM/Fuller Electro-Shift 10 speed selector set up. Probably forgetting a lot of parts added too. 41CHEVY Posted October 1, 2018 Chassis is painted in Testers Acryl Metallic Blue and most all the running gear is detailed and in. Started making up the air intake, exhaust and brackets. Signal lights are almost done, as are Mirrors and brackets along with the outer door handles and P.E. wiper blades. I'm pleased with the results.
